TOCOtril-100
Description_Effects
TOCOtril-100 contains Racecadotril 100 mg, an anti-secretory medicine used primarily for the treatment of acute diarrhea. Unlike traditional antidiarrheal drugs that slow down gut movement, Racecadotril works by reducing the excessive secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine. This mechanism helps control fluid loss without affecting the natural transit time of the intestines, making it a safer option, especially in children and the elderly. Racecadotril is particularly effective in managing watery diarrhea of non-infectious origin. It works by inhibiting an enzyme called enkephalinase, which increases the levels of natural enkephalins. These compounds act on the gut to limit secretions, helping restore the fluid and electrolyte balance. As a result, it reduces the frequency and volume of stools, alleviates symptoms like dehydration, and supports faster recovery. TOCOtril-100 is well-tolerated and does not cause rebound constipation, a common side effect of some other antidiarrheal medications. It can be safely used along with oral rehydration solutions (ORS) to replenish lost fluids. However, it is not a substitute for rehydration therapy and should be used under medical supervision, especially if symptoms persist beyond a couple of days or are accompanied by fever or blood in stools.
