TIAXdine (Fexofenadine 30mg/5ml) is an oral antihistamine suspension formulated especially for children to relieve symptoms caused by allergies. It contains fexofenadine hydrochloride, a second-generation, non-sedating antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors. Histamine is a natural substance in the body that is released during allergic reactions and is responsible for symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes. This medication is commonly prescribed for conditions such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). Unlike first-generation antihistamines, fexofenadine does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, which means it causes minimal or no drowsiness, allowing children to stay active and alert throughout the day. TIAXdine is easy to administer, thanks to its liquid form and pleasant flavor, making it suitable for children who have difficulty swallowing tablets. It starts working within one to two hours of administration and provides symptom relief for up to 12 hours, depending on the severity of the allergy. It is generally well tolerated, with occasional mild side effects such as headache, nausea, or dizziness. It is important to give this medication exactly as prescribed by a doctor.
