Satixime-DT contains Cefixime 100mg, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic available in a dispersible tablet (DT) form. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, particularly those affecting the lungs (bronchitis, pneumonia), throat (tonsillitis, pharyngitis), ears (otitis media), and urinary tract. It may also be prescribed for typhoid fever and other infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to the rupture and death of the bacteria. The dispersible tablet form is ideal for children and adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets, as it can be dissolved in a small amount of water for easier administration. Most patients begin to feel better within a few days of starting the treatment. However, it is important to complete the full course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to ensure complete eradication of the infection and to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance. Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, or mild allergic reactions. Use with caution in patients with known allergies to penicillin or cephalosporins.
