San-Sita-Forte is a combination antidiabetic medication containing Sitagliptin 50 mg and Metformin 1000 mg in a prolonged-release (PR) formulation. It is used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus to help control blood sugar levels in adults. Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in the body. These hormones help stimulate insulin release and decrease glucagon levels, thereby lowering blood sugar, especially after meals. Metformin, on the other hand, is a biguanide that reduces the production of glucose in the liver and improves the body’s response to insulin, promoting better sugar utilization. When used together, Sitagliptin and Metformin provide a dual mechanism of action that helps achieve more effective and sustained control of blood glucose levels throughout the day.
