SAIUmet-L is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Metformin and Linagliptin, used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This combination helps to control blood sugar levels in adults, especially when diet, exercise, and single therapy are not sufficient. Metformin belongs to the class of biguanides. It works by reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving the body's sensitivity to insulin. It is considered a first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes due to its effectiveness and safety profile. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor). It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in the body, which in turn stimulate the release of insulin and suppress the release of glucagon, particularly after meals. This helps in lowering blood sugar levels more effectively and reduces the risk of sugar spikes after eating. Together, Metformin and Linagliptin provide better glycemic control, especially in patients who are overweight or obese, and help reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications such as nerve problems, kidney damage, eye issues, and cardiovascular events.
