HIStar-48
Description_Effects
HIStar-48 is a high-strength formulation of Betahistine, used primarily to reduce the frequency and intensity of recurrent vertigo episodes associated with Ménière’s disease, a disorder of the inner ear. This condition can cause sudden spells of dizziness (vertigo), fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ears), and a sensation of fullness or pressure in the ear. These symptoms are thought to be caused by fluid imbalance in the inner ear’s labyrinth, which affects balance and hearing. Betahistine, the active ingredient in HIStar-48, is a histamine analog that acts by improving blood circulation in the inner ear and regulating the pressure of endolymphatic fluid. It stimulates H1 receptors and inhibits H3 receptors, which leads to vasodilation in the inner ear and enhances vestibular function. This reduces both the number and severity of vertigo attacks and may also help improve hearing and reduce tinnitus over time. HIStar-48 is often prescribed for patients who need a stronger daily dose to manage persistent symptoms. It is typically taken orally once or twice a day with or after food. Side effects, though uncommon, may include mild gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, or headache. Continued use as directed is important for effective long-term symptom control.
