Fytocholic-5v contains Obeticholic Acid, a medication primarily used for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic liver disease where the bile ducts in the liver are slowly destroyed. This destruction leads to the buildup of bile, which can damage liver tissue over time. Fytocholic-5v works by targeting and activating the Farnesoid X Receptor (FXR), a key regulator of bile acid synthesis, lipid metabolism, and glucose homeostasis. Obeticholic Acid reduces the production of bile acids in the liver by inhibiting enzymes responsible for their synthesis. At the same time, it enhances the secretion of bile acids, thereby reducing their concentration in the liver. This dual action decreases the toxic effects of accumulated bile acids in liver tissue, helping to protect liver cells and improve overall liver function.
