Amstar-Clav-Forte is a dry syrup formulation containing Amoxycillin (400mg) and Clavulanic Acid (57mg) per 5ml, specially designed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children. This combination antibiotic is particularly effective against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase, an enzyme that makes many antibiotics ineffective. By combining Amoxycillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, this formulation enhances the ability to fight even resistant infections. It is commonly prescribed for bacterial infections involving the lungs, throat, ear, urinary tract, skin, teeth, and bones, as well as for treating multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis in specific cases under medical supervision. Amoxycillin kills bacteria by interfering with their cell wall formation, while Clavulanic Acid protects Amoxycillin from being broken down by resistant bacterial enzymes. Amstar-Clav-Forte usually leads to symptom relief within a few days of starting treatment. However, it is important to complete the full course as prescribed to ensure that all bacteria are eliminated and to prevent the development of resistance. This syrup is generally well-tolerated, though mild side effects like diarrhea, nausea, or rash may occur. It should be administered as per the doctor's directions, preferably after food, to minimize stomach upset.
