AFYMONT contains Montelukast, a medication primarily used to prevent and manage asthma symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing in adults and children. It is also effective in managing symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist, which works by blocking the action of leukotrienes—chemical messengers that cause inflammation, tightening of airways, and mucus production in the lungs. By inhibiting these substances, AFYMONT helps to keep the airways open, reduces inflammation, and improves breathing, making it easier to perform daily activities without respiratory discomfort. AFYMONT is used as a preventive medication and is not meant for immediate relief during acute asthma attacks. It is typically taken once daily, preferably in the evening, and works best when taken regularly, even if no symptoms are present. It may also be prescribed as an add-on therapy to inhaled corticosteroids or bronchodilators for better asthma control.
